ESL revealed the Stage 2 (Legends) opening pairings for IEM Cologne Major 2026 at 19:00 CEST on June 5, immediately after Stage 1 closed. The eight opening matchups set up the Stage 2 Swiss that runs June 6-13:
The eight Stage 2 openers
- Vitality vs 3DMAX: world No. 1 against the lowest-VRS Stage 1 advancer. Vitality's first Major match as the side with the 41-point HLTV ranking gap over Spirit.
- Spirit vs Metizport: PGL Astana champions against the European side with the strongest pre-Major scrim reports.
- NAVI vs HEROIC: IEM Atlanta champions against the Stage 1 consistent-form side. NAVI's Inferno-pool question lands immediately - HEROIC's map pool is Inferno-friendly.
- MOUZ vs FlyQuest: the European mid-tier rifle-heavy match-up.
- Falcons vs B8: the PGL Astana finalists against the Stage 1 Ukrainian survivor.
- FURIA vs BetBoom: the Brazilian side carrying the green-and-yellow jersey against the team that beat paiN at IEM Atlanta groups - the rematch narrative gets a Major stage.
- Aurora vs paiN: Aurora's first competitive map after the Almaty-direct travel against the side that came through Stage 1 at 3-0. The headline match of the Stage 2 opener round.
- The MongolZ vs GamerLegion: the longest-prepared underdog against the consensus Stage 1 favourite. The MongolZ's 10-day in-city block hits its first real test.
Stage 2 schedule
Stage 2 opens June 6 at 10:00 CEST with the eight opening matches running across the day. Day 2 (June 7) covers 1-0 vs 1-0 and 0-1 vs 0-1 matches. Days 3-8 cover the Swiss progression, with the bo3 qualification matches in the Day 8 (June 13) window. The eight Stage 3 (Champions) advancers reveal at the close of Stage 2 on June 13.
Stage 2 to Stage 3 transition
The Champions bracket opens June 17 at the LANXESS arena with the four quarterfinal matches. The four-day gap between Stage 2 close and Stage 3 open (June 14-16) is the broadcast build-down window — Champions bracket teams stay in Cologne for the gap, with practice access at the ESL Cologne studio block.
