IEM Atlanta 2026 Group Draw: Vitality, FaZe and FUT in Group A — NAVI Headlines a Lighter Group B

The IEM Atlanta 2026 group draw went live this week ahead of the May 11-17 main event at the Georgia World Congress Center. The 16-team field splits into two GSL double-elimination groups of eight, with the top three from each group advancing — and the seeding produced one of the more uneven group stages of the 2026 season.

Group A — the death group

  • Team Vitality
  • FaZe Clan
  • FUT Esports
  • NRG
  • paiN Gaming
  • B8
  • BC.Game
  • BetBoom Team

Three top-10 teams cluster here: Vitality (current world #2 projected), FaZe (still in the elite tier despite the karrigan/NEO departures), and FUT — the PGL Bucharest 2026 champions still riding the post-trophy form. NRG round out the European-quality teams. paiN, B8, BC.Game and BetBoom bring playable competition but face an uphill bracket math problem: with only three of eight advancing, the GSL will produce real pressure on the mid-seeded teams from round one.

Group B — softer top, deeper depth

  • Natus Vincere
  • Astralis
  • Team Liquid
  • M80
  • Legacy
  • GamerLegion
  • SINNERS Esports
  • Passion UA

Group B is anchored by NAVI and Astralis but lacks a third clear top-10 team. Liquid have been mid-tier all spring; M80, Legacy and GamerLegion are competent but inconsistent. The two qualifier teams — SINNERS and Passion UA — both landed here, which gives the group a softer ceiling than A but probably also softer floor pressure.

The headliner: s1mple vs ZywOo

Group A's opening day produces an immediate marquee match: BC.Game vs Vitality — Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev (now on BC.Game since the SAW roster acquisition in January 2026) facing Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut. The two AWPers have headlined dozens of tier-1 matches across the past five years, and Atlanta marks one of the few 2026 events where they meet in groups rather than playoffs. Whatever the final score, expect record viewership for the opening day.

What this means for FaZe

FaZe arrive without karrigan (now on Falcons) and without head coach NEO (parted earlier in April). They play under interim coach enkay J with French stand-in Neityu. Group A is exactly the wrong group to test a new structure — three other top-tier teams, all with months of established calling, all hungry for the points. FaZe's most likely path is finishing 4th-6th; anything higher than that would be a genuine surprise.

Format reminder

Both groups run BO3 GSL double-elimination. Group winners advance to playoff semifinals. Runners-up enter quarterfinals as high seeds. Third-place teams enter quarterfinals as low seeds. Playoffs are single-elimination BO3 in the quarters and semis with a BO5 grand final, plus a third-place decider.

Prize money: $125K (1st), $50K (2nd), $30K (3rd), $20K (4th).
