IEM Rio 2026 Preview: Vitality, NAVI, and FURIA Lead 16-Team Field in Brazil

The next tier-one CS2 event is just around the corner. IEM Rio 2026 will bring 16 of the world's best teams to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from April 13 to 19, with the playoffs taking place at the iconic Farmasi Arena. With Vitality looking unstoppable and FURIA backed by a passionate home crowd, this could be one of the most exciting events of 2026.

Key Storylines

Can Anyone Stop Vitality?

Vitality enter Rio with three consecutive Big Event trophies, a 22-map win streak, and the deepest roster in CS2. After ropz's MVP performance at BLAST Rotterdam, the question isn't whether Vitality are favorites — it's whether anyone can take a map off them. The answer may come from the one team that consistently challenges them: Spirit, who took them to the limit at the Budapest Major.

FURIA's Home Advantage

The Brazilian crowd at IEM events is legendary. When FURIA take the stage at Farmasi Arena, the noise will be deafening. Ranked #2 in the world, FURIA have been consistently strong without winning a Big Event in 2026 — Rio could be where they finally break through, fueled by thousands of passionate fans.

NAVI's Redemption Arc

After being swept 3-0 by Vitality in the BLAST Rotterdam final, NAVI need to prove that result was an outlier. The roster has the talent — b1t, w0nderful, and makazze have all shown they can compete at the highest level. The question is whether iM can step up in big moments, and whether NAVI's economy management issues have been addressed.

Schedule

  • April 13-15: Group Stage
  • April 16: Rest day
  • April 17-19: Playoffs at Farmasi Arena

IEM Rio promises to be a clash of the world's best in one of esports' most electric atmospheres. Whether Vitality extend their dynasty or a challenger rises to dethrone them, Rio will deliver the answer.
