Astralis unveil NEO as first foreign head coach in organization history

<p>Astralis have officially announced Filip 'NEO' Kubski as their new head coach, ending weeks of speculation. NEO becomes the first non-Danish head coach in Astralis's entire organizational history — a symbolic break from the org's traditionally closed-loop Danish approach.</p><h3>Ending the ruggah era</h3><p>The appointment follows June's dismissal of Casper 'ruggah' Due. Ruggah's departure came after a rough spring, with Astralis struggling to make meaningful playoff runs at back-to-back tier-one events. Management framed the switch as a fresh start with a coach who can bring international experience.</p><h3>NEO's résumé</h3><p>NEO had been without a job since March, when he was let go by FaZe after a nearly three-year association. During his FaZe tenure, he won four notable trophies including IEM Sydney 2023 and IEM Chengdu 2024 — the kind of pedigree Astralis is banking on to reset the team's trajectory.</p><h3>Xirreth as performance coach</h3><p>Alongside NEO, Astralis have also brought in Xirreth as performance coach, focusing on individual player development, psychological preparation, and off-server routines. The two-track hire is intended to compound the impact.</p><h3>Bounty Finals debut</h3><p>NEO's Astralis project got its first real test at BLAST Bounty Season 2, where the team beat HOTU on July 25 to qualify for the Malta LAN Finals. World No. 11 MOUZ is the second-highest ranked team flying to Malta, but Astralis's playoff qualification under a brand-new coach only weeks into the role was seen as an immediate green shoot.</p><h3>Historical significance</h3><p>Astralis's willingness to hire outside the Danish talent pool is one of the more consequential internal shifts in the org's 10-plus year run in Counter-Strike. Whether the on-server results follow remains to be seen, but the tactical vocabulary is already changing.</p>
