Why VRS-only matters
The VRS-only system removed the traditional open qualifier pathway that had historically given underdog rosters a shot at the Major stage. Instead, teams needed to accumulate ranking points across a full season of tier-one competition to secure their invite.
The cutoff date advantage

Tournament format
Beyond qualification, the Major format itself remained familiar: three separate Swiss stages gradually reducing the field before an eight-team single-elimination playoff bracket determines the champion.
Prize pool
The 32 teams compete for a total pool of $1,250,000. The champion's share represents one of the largest single-tournament payouts of the CS2 spring cycle.
