The most anticipated quarterfinal of the IEM Cologne Major 2026 went to Team Falcons, who defeated the world's #1 Team Vitality 2-1 on June 19. It was arguably the match of the year to that point and ended Vitality's hopes of a third straight major title.

Falcons' pick, Anubis, was tightly contested. m0NESY and kyousuke both stepped up in critical rounds, and Falcons pulled away in the closing exchanges. The Russian AWPer was already looking like the best player on the map.
Map 2: Inferno — Vitality 13-11
Vitality responded on Inferno, their pick. ZywOo and ropz combined to lead the French organization back into the series, forcing a decider on Dust2.
Map 3: Dust2 — Falcons 13-11
With a semifinal spot on the line, Falcons delivered their best CS of the tournament. Dust2 was fought round by round, but m0NESY's late-round impact and karrigan's calm calls made the difference. Falcons closed it out 13-11 to complete the upset.
m0NESY's Statement
The young Russian AWPer posted 52 kills and a 1.43 rating across the series, earning Player of the Match honors. It was the kind of performance that MVP awards get built around. ZywOo finished as Vitality's highest-rated player at 1.16 in defeat.
Vitality's Exit
The world's #1 side went home in the quarterfinals — a shocking result on paper. But when the biggest match of the Major delivered, Falcons were the better team.
Semifinal Set
Falcons would face Team Spirit in the semifinals on June 20. Two of the tournament's biggest superstars — m0NESY and donk — were now on a collision course.
