The second day of the IEM Cologne Major 2026 Stage 2 played out on June 7. With teams sitting at 2-0 or 0-2 after Day 1, the outcomes here determined the tournament's first Stage 3 qualifiers and its first Stage 2 casualties.
The 3-0 Qualifiers
Teams that entered Day 2 at 2-0 needed one more win to advance directly to Stage 3 with a perfect record. Multiple 3-0 sweeps were locked in on this day, including qualifiers who would become mainstays of the Playoff bracket.
0-3 Eliminations
On the other side of the bracket, teams that lost their Day 1 openers had to win again on Day 2 to survive. Failing to do so meant a Major exit after just two matches.
Format Value
Under the standard Swiss format, being 3-0 at this stage was worth more than points on paper. It meant seed value for Stage 3 (higher seeds get easier opening opponents) and momentum entering the best-of-three format.
Key Stories
Team Vitality continued to look strong, though not untouchable. Team Spirit's 13-1 domination over MIBR had put donk and company on the front page of every CS site, and both teams remained title threats.
NAVI and Falcons both kept winning, though Falcons needed a full best-of-one to dispatch a scrappy opponent. Aurora Gaming quietly built momentum in the middle bracket.
Stage 3 Preview Forming
With Stage 3 starting on June 11 and running through June 15, the eight teams that survive Stage 2 would join eight direct Stage 3 invitees to form the final 16. Six of those eight direct invitees are among the highest-ranked teams in Valve's Global Standings.
Day 3 would see the 2-1 and 1-2 groups play their qualification and elimination matches on June 8.
