The Vitality unbeaten streak is over. BetBoom delivered the upset of spring 2026 at IEM Atlanta on May 12, taking the world No.1 team 2-1 in the upper-bracket semifinal and ending a run that only Falcons had managed to break since January. Anubis 13-10 BetBoom, Overpass 13-8 Vitality, Nuke 13-8 BetBoom — and the third map was decided in the first half, when BetBoom flew out to 10-2 on CT side and Vitality's comeback fell six rounds short.
How BetBoom did it
The structural call: deny Vitality's preferred Anubis opening. BetBoom's map veto squeezed Vitality away from Mirage and Dust2 and into Anubis, where the Russian side has been quietly building T-side execute structure all spring. The 13-10 there was the proof of concept — Vitality's utility damage finally looked closer to Astralis-era benchmarks, but BetBoom's defensive coordination held.
Overpass went to Vitality as expected — ZywOo posted a 1.42 rating on the map, single-handedly carrying mid-control. But Nuke was the kill. BetBoom's CT-side on Nuke went 10-2 in the first half, with their AWPer Magixx going 13-2 on the map. Vitality's T-side response was clean technically — they took eight rounds on T-side, the highest T-side total against BetBoom Nuke in 2026 — but it wasn't enough to recover from a 10-2 deficit.
What this means for Vitality
Vitality drop to lower bracket Round 2, where they'll face the winner of FaZe vs BetBoom's next opponent. The path to the playoffs is still open, but the sixth-trophy mission is now compromised — and more importantly, the data point matters. Vitality's dynasty narrative depended on the win streak running clean through Atlanta and Cologne. One loss to Falcons earlier in the spring was an outlier; a second loss to BetBoom at the year's biggest North American LAN looks like a pattern.
What this means for BetBoom
BetBoom advance directly to the upper-bracket semifinals and lock a top-six playoff seed. The roster's upper-tier capability has been understated for months; the Atlanta run is the validation event. If they close the upper bracket through one more match, they enter the playoffs as a Cinderella-tier favorite — and the Vitality dynasty narrative for 2026 takes a real hit.
