Day 1 of the IEM Cologne Major 2026 playoffs on June 18 unfolded largely as expected. Both higher seeds advanced, but the day still produced storylines that lifted the crowd at the LANXESS Arena.
Match 1: Aurora 2-0 BetBoom
Aurora set the tempo. XANTARES had one of his best Cologne showings on Nuke, and Aurora's Anubis follow-up sealed the semifinal berth. BetBoom's Stage 1 miracle finally ran out. Full details in our earlier recap.
Match 2: FURIA 2-1 9z
The nightcap was more competitive. 9z stole Dust2 and challenged FURIA to answer. FURIA did — winning Mirage and Overpass in workmanlike fashion. KSCERATO and yuurih combined to lift FURIA into the semifinals.

With the top half now set:
- SF1: Aurora vs FURIA (June 20)
The bottom half — Spirit vs G2, Vitality vs Falcons — would decide on June 19.
Attendance and Atmosphere
The LANXESS Arena was near-capacity for both matches. Turkish flags waved for Aurora, Brazilian for FURIA, Russian for BetBoom, and Argentinian for 9z. The international makeup of the crowd was one of the most diverse for any Major.
Sticker Market Response
- BetBoom stickers dropped 25% after their elimination
- 9z stickers fell 30% but with residual value from their Vitality upset
- Aurora Gaming and FURIA saw immediate bumps of 15-20%
