IEM Atlanta 2026 takes over the traditional North American mid-May slot this year, replacing IEM Dallas while the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Texas undergoes a multi-year renovation set to finish in 2029. The tournament runs May 11-17 at the Georgia World Congress Center, fields 16 teams across two GSL groups, and pays out $300,000 with $125,000 to the winner.
The 16-team field
Fourteen teams arrive on direct invites from ESL's seeding criteria. Two earned their seats through the qualifier path:
Direct invites: Team Vitality, Natus Vincere, FaZe Clan, Team Liquid, Astralis, GamerLegion, FUT Esports, NRG, Legacy, B8, paiN Gaming, M80, BC.Game Esports, BetBoom Team.
Qualifier slots: SINNERS Esports and Passion UA.
Storylines heading in
FaZe arrive in flux
FaZe Clan come into Atlanta with the most disrupted lineup of any top-tier team. Both head coach NEO and IGL karrigan were parted with in the weeks before the event. enkay J joins as the new coach. France-based Neityu arrives as a stand-in. The roster shuffle puts the team's historical strength — Karrigan's mid-round play-calling — under direct stress on a tight timeline. Atlanta is the first significant test of whether the new structure holds at LAN.
Vitality enter as the team to beat
Vitality won IEM Dallas 2025 a year ago and have been the most consistent S-tier team across the spring. They closed PGL Bucharest 2026 in second place after losing to FUT Esports in the grand final but recovered with strong post-Bucharest form. ZywOo's individual rating across the past three S-tier events sits above 1.30. The pattern around the team — heavy CT-side anchoring, ZywOo's opening AWP rotations — has not been solved by their last three opponents.
FUT Esports come in as champions
FUT lifted the PGL Bucharest 2026 trophy on April 11 after defeating Astralis 3-1 in the final, with dem0n posting a 1.4 series rating and 86.1 ADR as the standout. The win was the largest title in the team's CS2 era. Atlanta is their first event as defending champions in the strict sense — and a chance to validate that Bucharest was not a one-off.
The qualifier teams
Passion UA earned their slot through the European qualifier. SINNERS Esports came through a separate path and represent one of the better Czech-led rosters of recent years. Both teams will be heavy GSL underdogs but historically the qualifier path has produced at least one upset run per ESL S-tier event since IEM Cologne 2024.
Format and bracket math
Two eight-team GSL groups feed the bracket. Group winners advance directly to the semifinals. Group runners-up enter the quarterfinals as high seeds. Third-place teams from each group enter the quarterfinals as low seeds. The playoffs are single-elimination best-of-three across the quarters and semis with a best-of-five grand final.
Prize money:
- 1st — $125,000
- 2nd — $50,000
- 3rd — $30,000
- 4th — $20,000
What we are watching
Three things to follow across the week:
- FaZe's tactical adaptation under enkay J. The new coach has a small sample of LAN reps with the roster — the GSL groups are where his calling style will be visible.
- Whether Vitality's long-series CT collapse pattern repeats. They have lost three consecutive S-tier finals on long series in 2026. A bracket run that ends in the semis or finals is the next data point.
- The North American storyline. NRG, Legacy, M80 enter as the highest-seeded NA teams. Atlanta replacing Dallas means the home crowd is partial — and the NA scene needs a deep run to keep regional momentum going.
Confirmed teams, format details and bracket information are tracked on Liquipedia. The next major after Atlanta on the ESL Pro Tour calendar is IEM Cologne in July — a Major-level event. Performance in Atlanta directly impacts seeding into Cologne qualifiers, which adds stakes beyond the prize pool.
