NAVI filed the Aleksib bench release paperwork with CSPPA + Valve tournament administration July 12 morning at 09:00 UTC. The 4-week paid-bench window that began June 14 has expired. Paperwork release converts Aleksib's contractual status from bench to free agent.
The bench window timeline
- June 14, 2026: Aleksib benched by NAVI post-Cologne 2026 SF exit. Standard 4-week paid-bench window opens. Aleksib retains contractual salary during window but doesn't scrim with roster.
- June 24 - July 12: NAVI stand-in trial process (fnatic_v1 Jul 1, sjr Madsen Jul 4, kingfisher Jul 8-9). Trial results per our earlier coverage: kingfisher 1.19 rating, fnatic_v1 1.02, sjr Madsen 0.94.
- July 12, 2026 (today): 4-week window expires. NAVI file bench release paperwork. Aleksib becomes contractually free agent.
- July 13, 2026 (expected): NAVI signal-in announcement — expected kingfisher based on trial results.
- July 14, 2026: BLAST Spring Finals opens. New signal-in plays QF2 vs MOUZ.
The CSPPA + Valve filing procedure
NAVI's paperwork release filing involves two administrative channels:
- CSPPA (Counter-Strike Professional Players Association): Bench release notification — converts Aleksib from CSPPA active-roster status to free agent status. CSPPA-managed transfer window (July 12 - July 26 for the Rio Major RMR eligibility window).
- Valve tournament administration: Roster eligibility update — NAVI's Rio Major RMR roster no longer includes Aleksib. New signal-in becomes eligible for the Rio Major RMR August 21-27.
The Aleksib career context
Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen (30) — Finnish tier-1 IGL with a career body of work spanning ENCE (2018-2020), OG (2020-2022), NAVI (2023-2026). NAVI benching context:
- 2023 (NAVI IGL debut): Career-average tournament rating 1.09. Delivered NAVI's 2023 IEM Cologne runner-up finish.
- 2024 (peak year): Rating 1.13. Delivered NAVI's IEM Katowice 2024 title (Aleksib's only Tier-1 tournament title as IGL).
- 2025 (declining year): Rating 1.07. NAVI dropped from tier-1 top-3 to top-6 ranking.
- 2026 (bench year): Rating 0.98 pre-Cologne. Cologne 2026 SF exit rating 0.94 — his personal lowest tier-1 tournament rating in 5 years.
Aleksib future paths
As a free agent, Aleksib has three tracked career paths:
- Tier-1 roster join (60% probability): Nordic tier-1 rosters with IGL vacancy — Astralis (post-management-scandal roster restructure), Heroic (post-July 2026 downgrade), Aurora (Turkish roster with Nordic-adjacent scouting).
- Tier-1 mentor / analyst role (25% probability): Aleksib's tactical brain remains tier-1 caliber even as his individual mechanical form has diminished. Analyst desk positioning at BLAST / ESL broadcast is a documented path — Zeus (former NAVI IGL) went this route in 2020.
- Retirement / semi-retirement (15% probability): Aleksib's personal statement post-benching hinted at Q4 2026 retirement consideration if no tier-1 role emerges.
NAVI's public statement
NAVI CEO Yevhen "HrustalYov" Kozhukhovskyi (translated from Ukrainian):
"Today we file the paperwork that concludes the Aleksib bench window. We do this with respect — Aleksib gave NAVI three years of tier-1 leadership including our 2024 IEM Katowice championship. His decision to accept the bench in June and collaborate with us through the trial process is a testament to his professionalism. The new IGL announcement follows tomorrow. Aleksib remains part of NAVI's history and — we hope — CS2's future. We thank him for what he built here."
Aleksib's own statement
Aleksib (via personal Twitter, 09:47 UTC):
"Bench window closed. Not retiring. Watching Spring Finals as a fan. Next chapter starts after Q3."
