Valve's three-month VRS region rule rewrites the Major map — BC.Game saved by exception, Sashi still in limbo

Valve's three-month VRS region rule rewrites the Major map — BC.Game saved by exception, Sashi still in limbo

Valve changed the Major Supplemental Rulebook ahead of the PGL Major Singapore 2026 VRS cutoff — rewriting who can switch regions and when.

The rule

A roster is eligible for a Regional Assignment only if it "did not appear in any other region's VRS list in the preceding three calendar months."

  • Scope: Major invitations only (non-Major VRS events are unaffected)
  • Timing: measured from the Major invitation issuance, not tournament start

Timeline

  • September: BC.Game signed asap, pairing him with Senzu and mzinho in an Asian-majority core
  • October 5: Sashi announced TjP and Hatz as temporary additions, with Anlelele's Vietnamese citizenship intended to qualify the roster for an Asian assignment; MistR and Cabbi were to sit out one month
  • October 7 (two days later): Valve announced the rule change, with affected teams "currently disqualified from the Major run" unless they reached out
  • Also October 7: Valve granted BC.Game an exception. The asap/Magisk/mzinho/s1mple/Senzu lineup was assigned to Asia and kept its VRS points
  • November 2: VRS invite cutoff
  • November 25 - December 13: Major at Kallang

Who was affected

  • BC.Game: 1,191 points, 39th in Europe but would have ranked 4th in Asia. Exception keeps them eligible — now sit No. 1 in Asian VRS, still have to earn invite through rankings
  • Sashi: no resolution with Valve as of publication
  • WW: no resolution with Valve as of publication

Quotes

Ali "Ako" Muhanned (BC.Game CEO): "Start us from zero. Let us play. Let the server decide." (proposing a zero-VRS reset)

Tom J. Lemke (BIG co-founder): described Sashi's reliance on Anlelele's citizenship as the "straw that broke the camel's back," citing a direct conversation with Valve.

Nikola "NiKo" Kovač: publicly called on Valve to intervene (specific wording not reproduced in the source article).

Who benefits, who loses

Benefits: teams that stayed in their region all season; Asian teams that built their rankings there. Asia's five Major slots are especially sensitive to outside entrants.

Loses: teams that engineered late region switches — Sashi and WW most visibly. BC.Game's position is secured only by the exception.

Valve's own text includes no public statement beyond the rule. The ruling demonstrates the three-month rule "is not absolute" — exceptions remain available.
