Why Blue Steel reads authentic
Real blued steel has a subtle color shift along the blade — darker at edges, lighter in flat zones. Valve's Blue Steel finish reproduces this gradient procedurally. The Flip Knife's curved silhouette catches the gradient at varied angles, which means the bluing reads as authentic forging rather than flat painted color.
MW preservation
The blued gradient is most legible at low wear. At MW the color shift across the blade stays visible; FT and below flatten the gradient into uniform dark blue, losing the gunsmith-finish character that defines Blue Steel.
