The ★ Huntsman Knife | Blue Steel in Minimal Wear is the deep-blue counterpart to Night in the Huntsman's solid-color finish family. Released with the Huntsman Weapon Case (May 2014), Blue Steel applies a heat-treated dark blue oxidation finish — the visual reference is gunsmith bluing rather than painted color.
Why Blue Steel reads as authentic
Real blued steel has a subtle color shift across the blade — darker at the edges, lighter in flat zones. Valve's Blue Steel finish reproduces this gradient procedurally, which means it never reads as flat painted color the way Ultraviolet does. It's the version of the Huntsman that looks like a real workshop piece.
MW preservation specifics
The blued gradient is most legible at low wear. At MW the color shift across the blade stays clearly visible; FT and below flatten the gradient into a uniform dark blue, losing the gunsmith-finish authenticity that defines Blue Steel.
