What StatTrak means, why it adds 30–60% to a skin's price, and the top-25 most-liquid finishes that come in StatTrak.
StatTrak™ is a modifier applied to a small percentage of skin drops that adds a live kill counter to the weapon inspect screen. Every kill you get with a StatTrak weapon increments the counter permanently — resetting only happens via a Trade Up Contract's output. Because kill counts are irreversibly stored on the item, StatTrak variants are permanently distinguishable from their regular counterparts.
The StatTrak drop rate is approximately 10% of a given skin's drops from a case opening (per public analysis). Because supply is smaller and collector demand is higher, StatTrak variants trade at a 30–60% premium over the same skin in the same wear without StatTrak. For iconic finishes (AK-47 Redline, AWP Asiimov, Karambit Fade), the premium can exceed 100%. StatTrak versions of very low-tier skins (blue-tier and lower) sometimes trade at a smaller premium because the counter is less visually impactful.

StatTrak is a modifier that adds a permanent kill counter to your inspect screen. Every kill with the weapon adds +1 to the counter. The counter cannot be reset (except through a Trade Up Contract's output) and is preserved when the item is traded or listed on the market. It provides a personalisation and vanity value that some collectors specifically hunt for.
Typical StatTrak premium is 30–60% over the same skin without StatTrak, in the same wear. Iconic finishes (AK-47 Redline, Karambit Fade, AWP Asiimov) command 80–150% premium. Very low-tier StatTrak variants (blue-tier finishes under $2) sometimes trade at a small negative premium because the counter is less visible.
Buy StatTrak if you plan to use the skin actively — the growing counter is the visual reward. Do not buy StatTrak purely for investment: the resale premium is capped, and non-StatTrak variants of the same finish have more liquid resale markets. Exception: high-count StatTrak variants (10,000+ kills) can carry auction-tier premiums.
No. StatTrak is set at drop time from a case opening and cannot be added later. The only way to get a StatTrak version is to open a case and roll one, buy a pre-existing StatTrak skin, or Trade Up 10 StatTrak inputs (the output is automatically StatTrak with counter reset to 0).
