Why is the M4A4 Howl from the Huntsman Case?
The M4A4 Howl originally dropped from the Huntsman Case at its May 2014 release as a covert-tier skin. In August 2014, Valve received a DMCA claim over the original Howl artwork, pulled the skin from the drop pool, replaced it with a new hand-designed art (still called Howl), and reclassified all pre-DMCA Howls as "Contraband" — a unique classification not shared with any other CS2 skin. The Huntsman Case still exists but the Howl no longer drops from it.
Is the Huntsman Case worth opening?
No — modern-drop Huntsman Cases will NOT drop a Contraband Howl (only pre-DMCA opened Cases carry that risk). The current M4A4 Desolate Space is the covert-tier drop replacing Howl. EV per opening is 45–55%. For collectors: buy a Huntsman Case as inventory ($8–15) as a piece of CS history, but do not open expecting a Howl.
