Aurora Gaming reached the semifinals of the IEM Cologne Major 2026 in dominant fashion, defeating BetBoom Team 2-0 on June 18. The Turkish-anchored side controlled the series from start to finish, ending BetBoom's remarkable Cinderella run.
Map 1: Nuke — Aurora 13-something
Nuke was the tone-setter. XANTARES put up a monstrous performance, posting a 1.78 rating and 117.9 ADR on the map. His T side rating of 3.16 was one of the most dominant halves of the Major. Aurora's structured T side executes overwhelmed BetBoom's defense, and the map slipped away in short order.
Map 2: Anubis
Anubis was more competitive but ultimately followed the same pattern. Aurora's discipline in retakes and their utility usage in default rounds gave them a steady edge. BetBoom fought but never got a foothold.
What This Meant
Aurora became the first team to qualify for the Cologne Major semifinals. It was also arguably the biggest result in the organization's short history under the Aurora banner. XANTARES was named Player of the Match with his commanding two-map performance.
BetBoom's Journey
BetBoom's Major ended in the quarterfinals, but their run was historic: they were the only Stage 1 team to reach playoffs. Their prize: $45,000, a top-8 finish, and the respect of the entire community.
Semifinal Lineup
Aurora would face the winner of FURIA vs 9z on June 20. Given the way Aurora had played all tournament, they entered the semifinal as a legitimate title contender.
