NiKo Finally Lifts a Major Trophy After 17 Attempts

The last piece of Nikola 'NiKo' Kovac's decade-long resume finally clicked into place on June 21. With Falcons' 3-0 sweep of FURIA in the IEM Cologne Major 2026 grand final, the Bosnian rifler joined the exclusive club of CS Major champions after 17 tournament appearances without a title.

The Final Performance

NiKo delivered the standout individual showing across the series, posting a +20 K/D differential and 79.4% KAST across all three maps. He led Falcons at key rounds on Mirage, matched m0NESY's tempo on Anubis, and closed out the sweep on Inferno with several highlight-reel duels.

A Career-Defining Moment

NiKo has consistently ranked among the top individual talents in Counter-Strike for the past eight years, but the Major had eluded him at every previous attempt. His last final appearance before Cologne came at IEM Rio 2022 with FaZe Clan, where the team lost to Outsiders. In an interview with HLTV following the victory, NiKo emphasized how much the pursuit had weighed on him personally.

Reconnecting With karrigan

The victory was also a reunion story. NiKo spent years alongside karrigan and zonic at FaZe Clan before those partnerships broke apart. When Falcons approached him about restructuring the roster earlier in 2026, NiKo told HLTV: 'There are not many IGLs that we would have taken, basically, it was only Finn or no one else.' The bet paid off. The trio that had come so close together on FaZe now walk away with a trophy at what was arguably the biggest Counter-Strike event of the CS2 era.
