PGL Astana 2026 Bracket Locked: 16 Teams, Round 1 Matchups, Friday Kickoff

The 16-team bracket for PGL Astana 2026 is locked in, with the group stage opening at Barys Arena on May 9. With Vitality and NAVI both committed to IEM Atlanta, Astana becomes the open field for second-tier title contenders to make their statement. Eight Round 1 matchups have been announced, and the Swiss-system format means the early ones do real damage.

The 16 teams

FURIA, MOUZ, PARIVISION, Team Falcons, Team Spirit, Aurora Gaming, The MongolZ, G2 Esports, Gentle Mates, HEROIC, Monte, magic, K27, Fisher College, 9z Team, and The Huns Esports. Twelve direct invites came through the global Valve Regional Standings as of March 2; the four remaining slots filled via European, North American, South American, and Asian regional qualifiers — bringing K27, Fisher College, magic, and The Huns into the main event.

Round 1 matchups

Aurora Gaming vs HEROIC. G2 Esports vs Fisher College. MOUZ vs Gentle Mates. The MongolZ vs magic. Team Falcons vs K27. Team Spirit vs The Huns Esports. FURIA vs Monte. PARIVISION vs 9z Team. The early-round dynamics favor the experienced rosters: MOUZ, MongolZ, Falcons, and Spirit are all reasonable Round 1 picks, while Aurora vs HEROIC is the must-watch coin-flip of the opening day.

The dark-horse picks

With Vitality and NAVI absent, Spirit and MOUZ enter as the working favorites. But the format opens space for asymmetric runs. Falcons under the karrigan-led roster will be tested for the first time at this LAN; FURIA has been quietly building form post-Fort Worth; The MongolZ remain the wildcard who can take down anyone on a hot day. Watch for Aurora Gaming as the dark-horse semifinal threat — they have been climbing the VRS steadily and Astana could be their breakthrough event.

Format and prize pool

$800,000 total prize pool. Group stage runs May 9-13 as a five-round Swiss with all 16 teams. Top eight advance to single-elimination playoffs starting from the quarterfinals on May 14-17. Grand final May 17 at 17:00 ALMT (Astana local time). All matches Bo3 except the grand final, which is Bo5.
